MAPP will cross the Chesapeake Bay and travel up the Choptank River before making landfall in Dorchester County.
The cable will be laid in one continuous piece from the western shore of the Bay to the landing point in the Choptank River without the need for splices to be made in the field. To get the cables underwater, they will be fed from the deck of a barge on the surface of the water down to the floor of the bay and river. An underwater jet plow will use high pressure water to create a narrow, temporary trench in which to bury the cable, minimally disturbing the surrounding areas.
For more details regarding the path the cable will take across the Chesapeake Bay and Choptank River, see the Maps page of the website.
A submarine cable will be used for the entire route across the Chesapeake Bay and up the Choptank River. The cable will be fed from a barge and buried underneath the bay and river bottom using a jet plow underwater placement technique.
There are a variety of plows that may be used to bury the cables underwater.
