ENVIRONMENT

Sensitive to Environmental and Community Concerns

PHI understands there will be environmental and community concerns associated with the construction of this new line and we are taking a comprehensive approach to planning.  Our priority is to minimize impacts to the natural resources along the entire route.

  • Before construction begins, environmental and archeological studies in the Bay, wetlands and other sensitive areas will be completed.
  • The most advanced underwater line placement technology for the crossing of the Chesapeake Bay and Choptank River will be used.
  • A majority of the oyster repletion areas will be avoided.

Respecting Natural Resources

Delmarva Power employs best-practice construction and wetland protection methods, including:

  • Perform route and site-selection analysis to avoid wetland areas whenever possible
  • Complete detailed field studies to identify resources such as wetlands, threatened and endangered species and cultural resources within the project right-of-way
  • Design modifications to minimize impacts to natural resources
  • Implement best management practices, including barriers, to prevent sediment from entering wetlands or upstream waterways
  • Use temporary mats and bridges for access through wetland areas and waterbody crossings
  • Install protective fencing around threatened and endangered plant species
  • Avoid work during the breeding season for protected species
