Let the Maryland Public Service Commission know about your support for MAPP. Read the following letter and electronically sign it below. Also, plenty of information is available throughout this website. Feel free to add in your own words of support in the text box below.
I support the Mid-Atlantic Power Pathway (MAPP) project and urge the Maryland Public Service Commission to approve this critical infrastructure upgrade for the future of the Delmarva Peninsula.
This project should be approved because:
- It's been at least 25 years since the last major interstate transmission line was built in the Mid-Atlantic region;
- Demand for power during peak usage times is expected to increase over the next 10 years;
- PJM, the transmission grid operator for 13 states and Washington D.C., including Delaware and Maryland, has warned that without major transmission upgrades, our region could experience rolling blackouts in the 2019 to 2021 timeframe;
- Uncertainties exist concerning the following: the impact of environmental regulations that may cause suppliers to take generating units out of service rather than make expensive upgrades, the long term resiliency of demand resources and the possibility of load growth resurgence due to faster than forecasted economic recovery -- all of these factors would accelerate the need for transmission;
- It will create a bigger "pipeline" for delivering new clean energy solutions such as wind, solar power, and emissions-free nuclear;
- The Delmarva Peninsula imports the vast majority of its power via transmission lines from the north, and existing generation in the south is being taken out of service. The combination of these factors leaves the region vulnerable to long-term outages. MAPP will ensure a safe, reliable supply of electricity for the future.
