TRANSMISSION VOID

The Situation

A complex system of high-voltage transmission lines reliably supplies electricity to the Mid-Atlantic region, forming the backbone of our electrical grid - with one glaring exception. On the Delmarva Peninsula, no such high-voltage transmission lines exist to transport reliable energy.

A quick look at the regional transmission map reveals a significant void on the Delmarva Peninsula. MAPP will fix the lack of transmission on the Delmarva Peninsula, leading to greater energy reliability in the region.

Building Capacity

Currently, the Delmarva Peninsula can only import power from the north. Delmarva Power and cooperative and municipal electric companies, such as Choptank Electric Cooperative, rely on this transmission system to keep the lights on for their customers. The MAPP project would significantly increase the Delmarva Peninsula's ability to import power by providing access to electricity sources located west of the Chesapeake Bay.
